Let's do lunch!

Remember that ugly collage of scraps from my last post? This is what it looks like now. Well, it doesn't look like that now, but it looked like that after I did the technique I learned on Gingersnap Creations.

I may have gone too thick on the paint AGAIN because you can't see much of the paper underneath. I keep thinking I make it thin enough and I can see the paper when I'm painting but then it dries and I can't see the words on the paper anymore. If at first (second and third) you don't succeed...

I cut it into smaller pieces and added these beauties I found on The Graphics Fairy.

I added some old lace and made the edges darker with some vintage photo distress ink.
I also added a little piece of paper doily.

That was fun!

I hope you have a fun, creative week!

Unstuck

I've been trying to make a project for a month now and can't seem to find the right ingredients to make the collage work. Because of that I haven't started anything new. I finally decided to put it aside and create something else. First I had to clean up my work space because that was also keeping me from feeling creative. As I was cleaning I started making a pile of scraps that weren't good enough to keep. Then I remembered a project I saw on Gingersnap Creations by Trisha Too about making a background out of scraps. I've done these before but not this large. I started with a piece of scrapbook paper that I had and hated. It had telephones all over it. Not anymore!
I started being careful about placement but all those carefully placed pieces got buried. I got ruthless with it and hit the recycling bin and covered the page. Ok, it is just ugly now but my challenge is to make it look great so check back and see if I can make something pretty out of it.

Before the holidays I was working in my mini moleskin that is only a few inches long. This first page has a scrap paper background that I meant to put a glaze on but it ended up too thick and you can't see the paper.

Then I did a couple gluebook pages.

Check out this cute little boy.

I hope you are all doing well!

Nuttin

Hi! I haven't had much creative time lately so I haven't had much to share. I'm sitting here watching The Bachelor which is one of my guilty pleasures. It's so bad it's good! Since I haven't posted in a while I figured I could show you a couple things I made before Christmas.

First up is a collage I made for my dad. I was inspired by one of Mary Green's lessons from the Collage Club last year.
That's a picture of my dad when he was in the Navy. I also used a copy of a letter he wrote to his grandparents while he was at sea. When I was a teenager I was cleaning and found a pile of old letters in the trash. They were all the letters he wrote to his grandparents and aunts while he was in the Navy. I tucked them away for safe keeping. I told him at some later point in time and he was glad I had them.

Then I added some old Navy buttons, a little bit of map and ribbon and used a book cover as the base.
The letter was written at Christmas time too. I can't remember what year off hand but around 1953.
He is going to turn 80 next week. I'm sure he'd be thrilled with me for saying that.

Next is some ornaments I made for my mom. I used pictures of me and my siblings. Guess which one is me!
I used Tim Holtz crystally things (can't remember what they're called) and Ranger's Glossy Accents.
Then I covered the backs with some paper from an old Christmas book.
Then I added some beads and they were finished.

 That's me, sucking my thumb.

January Collage Challenge

Time for another collage challenge from Mary Green at Greenpaper. Mary supplied three beautiful images and you have to use at least a part of each one in something you make. I started cuttting the advertisement piece not knowing what to do with it. I was drawn to the little "No. 8" so I decided to use that. I placed it on the girl and right away knew she would be a contestant in a cooking contest.

Josephine, aka contestant No. 8, wins first prize in the Gelatine recipe contest. Her prize is getting her recipe published in the Dainty Desserts Recipe Book. Her parents are so proud!

Join in on the challenge yourself or at least go see what everyone else does with the same three images. You can check it out here

Thanks, Mary, for another fun challenge!
